Karlsruhe - In den über 2.000 dm-Märkten in Deutschland kaufen täglich mehr als 1,9 Millionen Kunden ein. Der größte Drogerie-Konzern-Europas hat seinen Ursprung in Baden-Württemberg. Die erste Filiale von dm eröffnete Unternehmensgründer Götz Werner im Jahr 1973 in Karlsruhe. Heute gibt es dm-Filialen in 12 Ländern, verteilt über ganz Europa. Die Gründung von dm – eine Erfolgsgeschichte
Zur Zeit der Gründung von dm unterlagen Drogerie-Produkte, ähnlich wie noch heute beispielsweise Bücher, einer Preisbindung – also einer gesetzlichen Verpflichtung zur Einhaltung bestimmter Preise. Als dieses Gesetz aufgehoben wurde, nutzte Götz Werner die Gelegenheit. Er eröffnete den ersten dm-Markt 1973 in Karlsruhe. Hier wurden Drogerie-Produkte günstig und in Selbstbedienung verkauft. Neben Werner als Gesellschafter gab es ab 1947 mit Günther Lehmann nur einen Mitgesellschafter an der Spitze von dm. Drei Jahre nach der Gründung von dm-drogerie erfolgte der Markteintritt in Österreich.
Als dm immer größer wurde, startete die Drogerie-Kette 1985 mit der Ausbildung junger Menschen direkt in den Märkten. Nur ein Jahr später rief dm seine erste Eigenmarke ins Leben und nahm Bio-Produkte von Alnatura ins Sortiment auf, 1989 folgte mit der Naturkosmetik-Marke Alverde die nächste Eigenmarke von dm. 1987 eröffnete das Verteilerzentrum in der Nähe von Bonn, das von nun an alle dm-Filialen in Deutschland mit Waren belieferte.
dm-Geschichte: Vom kleinen Markt zum Drogerie-Giganten
Ab 1990 expandierte dm in die neuen Bundesländer. Hier wurde der erste dm-Markt in Halle an der Saale eröffnet. Drei Jahre später wagte der Drogerie-Riese einen weiteren Schritt ins Ausland. Neben Filialen in Österreich gab es nun auch die ersten Märkte in Ungarn und Tschechien. Eine weitere Revolution bei dm geschah im Jahr 2000, als die Payback Karte eingeführt wurde. Kunden konnten so erstmals in den dm-Filialen Rabattpunkte sammeln und einlösen.
Weil das Unternehmen dm immer weiter wuchs, wurde im September 2002 der erste Betriebsrat gegründet. 2008 trat Eric Harsch, der bereits zuvor über 25 Jahre dem Betrieb angehört hatte, die Nachfolge von Götz Werner als Geschäftsleiter an. Werner selbst wechselte in den dm-Aufsichtsrat und gab im August 2010 bekannt, dass er seine Unternehmensanteile in eine gemeinnützige Stiftung eingebracht habe. 2011 wurde Werners Sohn Christoph in die Geschäftsführung aufgenommen. dm-Sortiment: Drogerie bietet über 1.000 Marken und 32 Eigenmarken
Das Sortiment bei dm wurde mit den Jahren immer größer. Im Gegensatz zu Supermärkten wie Kaufland oder Aldi, deren Sortiment sich zum großen Teil auf Lebensmittel konzentriert, umfasst das Sortiment einer Drogerie neben Produkten der Schönheitspflege und Wellness auch Tee, Biologische Reformprodukte, Artikel für Haus und Garten sowie elektronische Hilfsmittel. Mittlerweile bietet dm insgesamt über 12.500 verschiedene Artikel in fast allen Sortimentsbereichen an. Seit 1986 führte dm die ersten Eigenmarken ein. Beliebte dm-Marken sind heute zum Beispiel: Balea (Körperpflege), Alverde (Naturkosmetik), Fascino (Strumpfmode) oder Trend it up (Make-up und Beauty). Im dm-Online-Shop werden neben den Eigenmarken noch rund 1.000 weitere bekannte Marken angeboten.

dm-Standorte: Drogerie-Filialen in Deutschland
Seit 1973 entstanden in Deutschland 1.977 dm-Filialen. Den beliebten Drogeriemarkt findet man mittlerweile in so gut wie jeder deutschen Innenstadt. Wie dm auf seiner Internetseite mitteilt, erwirtschaftete das Unternehmen in Deutschland im Geschäftsjahr 2018/2019 rund 8,4 Milliarden Euro. Aktuell arbeiten in der Bundesrepublik rund 41.000 Menschen bei dm und mehr als 3.500 sind dort in der Ausbildung. Allein 2019 gab es 114 dm-Märkte, die entweder neu eröffnet oder nach einem Umbau wiedereröffnet wurden. Die durchschnittliche Ladenfläche von dm liegt aktuell bei über 620 Quadratmeter. Auf seiner Internetpräsenz sucht dm permanent weitere Mietobjekte in „Innenstädten, in beliebten Stadtteil- oder gut frequentierten Fachmarktlagen“, um das Filial-Netz in Deutschland kontinuierlich zu erweitern.

Arbeiten bei dm: Mitarbeiter-Philosophie und Ausbildung in der Drogerie
„So wie ich mit meinen Mitarbeitern umgehe, so gehen sie mit den Kunden um“, fasst dm seine Grundsätze zusammen. Die Drogerie-Kette wirbt in seiner Mitarbeiter-Philosophie mit „Transparenz und Geradlinigkeit“. Man wolle allen Mitarbeitern helfen, Umfang und Struktur des Unternehmens zu erkennen und ihnen die Gewissheit geben, in den Aufgaben objektiv wahrgenommen zu werden. Außerdem wolle dm allen Mitarbeitern die Möglichkeit geben, gemeinsam voneinander zu lernen und motiviert sie, sich immer weiter zu entwickeln.
Aktuell befinden sich neben rund 41.000 Mitarbeitern bei dm in Deutschland rund 3.500 junge Menschen in der Ausbildung. Bei dm sei jeder Mitarbeiter dazu angehalten, mit seinem Engagament die nachhaltige Unternehmenskultur mitzugestalten. Innerhalb der Initiative „KLIMA bewusster handeln“ arbeitet dm an der Entwicklung von klimaneutralisierten Produkten, mit einem „kleinstmöglichen ökologischen Fußabruck“. Neben Naturkosmetik werden in den dm-Filialen auch weitere Produkt-Alternativen für Kunden angeboten, denen ein nachhaltiger Lebensstil wichtig ist – zum Beispiel Spülmaschinen-Tabs oder Toilettenpapier, aber auch Deo, Shampoo oder Zahnbürsten ohne Plastik. Produkt-Rückruf bei dm: Das müssen Kunden beachten
Auch in der Produktion für Drogerien kann es zu Fehlern kommen. Wenn ein fehlerhaftes Produkt dann tatsächlich im Verkauf landet, müssen Hersteller und Märkte einen Rückruf starten. Nahezu jedes Produkt kann von einem Rückruf betroffen sein – auch wenn die Hersteller natürlich von Anfang an penibel daran arbeiten, dass keine Produkte auf dem Markt landen, die die Gesundheit von Kunden gefährden. Sollte dies doch einmal passieren, ziehen die Hersteller und Vertreiber schnell Konsequenzen und starten einen Produkt-Rückruf.
Auch dm bietet seinen Kunden im „Newsroom“ auf der Internetseite einen Überblick über Produkte, die zurückgerufen werden müssen. Meist sind dies Vorsichtsmaßnahmen, die auf Verdacht und zur Vorbeugung ergriffen werden.
